Helping young farmers thrive in the good times, and get ready for the hard times

AG.Biz Ready was a FREE 10-week program funded by the Young Farmer Business Program open to all young farmers from the Northern Tablelands in NSW.

Delivered by business community resilience experts Resilient Ready, this program built essential skills to forward plan and prepare for future disasters and unplanned events.

The modules were released weekly from 2 April to 4 June.

Who was this program for?

Current and future farm owners, managers and operators, and farmhands.

Designed specifically for young farmers (aged 18-35), we encouraged inter-generational learning and welcomed all farmers from the Northern Tablelands.

Benefits included:

  • Build your personalised business resilience toolkit to future plan for disasters and unplanned events
  • Receive 10 micro-learning (5-minute) modules issued that can be completed on your phone, tablet or laptop
  • Access video case studies from local farmers with real life experience
  • The opportunity to connect with famers online and/or face to face

This program was funded by the Young Farmer Business Program (YFBP) – an initiative of the NSW Department of Primary Industries.

10 micro-learning modules were released weekly over 10 weeks from 2nd April until 4th June 2024.

Module topics included:

  • Transforming knowledge into revenue
  • Understanding who’s a linchpin
  • Having the right insurance
  • Being happy at work
  • Staying financially viable in business
  • Having the right team on your farm
  • Developing solid business networks
  • Turning disasters into opportunities
  • Dealing with financial hardships
  • Protecting against cyber-attacks

We also delivered four workshops across the Northern Tablelands to show how business resilience can be fun!

Workshop delivered:

  • Walcha on 4 April and 31 May
  • Inverell on 3 April and 29 May
  • Online – 29 April and 6 May

What is the project?

AG.Biz Ready – Northern Tablelands was a bespoke version of Resilient Ready’s Business Community Resilience (BCR) Toolkit program funded by the Young Farmer Business Program in NSW.

This FREE 10-week program was open to all young farmers from the Northern Tablelands region.

This program build your essential skills to forward plan and prepare for future disasters and unplanned events.

  • Armidale
  • Glen Innes Severn
  • Inverell
  • Tenterfield
  • Uralla
  • Walcha
How long does the program run for?

Registrations were open on 19 February 2024, and the program kicked off in April.

The participants would receive a new micro-learning module every Tuesday evening from 2nd April until 4th June 2024.

Local workshops delivered:

  • Walcha on 4 April and 31 May
  • Inverell on 3 April and 29 May

The program formally ended on 30th June 2024.

How will it benefit young farmers?

This program helped young farmers take small steps to build vital knowledge and skills in farm business resilience.

10 topics were offered for learning:

  • Transforming knowledge into revenue
  • Understanding who’s a linchpin
  • Having the right insurance
  • Being happy at work
  • Staying financially viable in business
  • Having the right team on your farm
  • Developing solid business networks
  • Turning disasters into opportunities
  • Dealing with financial hardships
  • Protecting against cyber-attacks

Each module takes only 5-10 minutes to complete.

Participants received helpful information and tips, watched lived experience videos from farming peers, and attended community and online workshops to build local connections with others like you.
