Resilient Ready was funded under the SAFECOM Disaster Risk Reduction grant program to run our Business Community Resilience (BCR) Toolkit program FREE for all small businesses operating from the Upper Spencer Gulf and Limestone Coast regions in South Australia throughout 2023.
The 12-month project fostered a positive collaboration between Resilient Ready with in-kind contribution from the Office for Small and Family Business within the Department for Industry, Innovation and Science (DIIS) in South Australia to build knowledge, skills and connections across two high-risk regions in the State.
Resilient Ready founder Renae Hanvin and locally employed stakeholder engagement lead Lorraine Pitman worked with project collaborators and local councils, industry groups and business people to co-design the content for two bespoke Business Community Resilience (BCR) Toolkits, which were customised for each region.
Our in-house innovative solution, the BCR Toolkit, is tailored to building localised resilience in all types of organisations within a community.
As part of this project we localised micro-learning modules by featuring local business people sharing their personal experiences and lessons learned as small business owners and operators. Module topics were specifically requested by community business members.
Community workshops were held in Mount Gambier, Naracoorte, Robe, Port Augusta, Port Pirie and Whyalla to drive conversations and shared learnings. Local small businesses hosted and/or catered for all events to promote local venues and produce.
I love the "ah-ha" moments that come from small business owners when they learn a simple thing to help them do business better.

Our customised BCR Toolkits increased knowledge about the impacts of disasters and steps towards preparedness for small businesses and their business communities.
De-identified data was shared with participating organisations including the Office for Small and Family Business, local Councils and industry associations so they could identify capabilities, gaps and vulnerabilities in their local business communities, and take action to reduce key risks.
