HUBS / Kangaroo Island Hub

Co-designing a local business community solution

Disasters are impacting the Kangaroo Island business community like never before. A constantly changing climate requires a new culture of business risk reduction and resilience.

To build capabilities in business people across the Kangaroo Island region, Resilient Ready (formerly corporate2community) has been funded to create a FREE solution for the local business community.

This ‘Kangaroo Island Business Climate’ Roadmap will enable every person who owns, operates or works in a local business (including not-for-profits) to do business better – in the good times and bad.

Funded by SAFECOM, this project is a collaboration between Resilient Ready, the South Australian Department for Industry, Innovation and Science (DIIS) and the Kangaroo Island Business Hub.

Members of the Kangaroo Island business community can access their Roadmap for free until 30th June 2026.

A commitment to building local capabilities

Engaging with the community to co-design

Kangaroo Island business community representatives have been participating in Steering Group sessions to guide the direction of this project over the past 12 month. The grant also includes engaging a local Kangaroo Island person to work in the project team.

In addition, 6 discovery workshops were held in person across the Kangaroo Island region and online in June 2022. This important step enabled us to test the capability building tool concept and source local business people with lived experience.

Findings informed this Roadmap’s ‘business climate’ theme to ensure each micro-learning module is relevant, tailored and beneficial to the entire Kangaroo Island business community.

As a Kangaroo Island local, I'm excited to be bringing together our business people to explore new opportunities and see what comes of our collaboration.

Frequently asked questions

What is this project?

The ‘Kangaroo Island Business Climate’ Roadmap is an online capability building program specifically designed for businesses operating on Kangaroo Island. The aim of the project is to enable every business person across Kangaroo Island to do business better – in the good times, and the bad.

The project focuses on reducing disaster risks and limiting the impact associated with natural hazards on Australian communities and economies. We know that people are the foundation for building resilience, so Resilient Ready Hubs focus on building people’s capabilities.

This ‘Kangaroo Island Business Climate’ Roadmap solution aims to:

  • support a new culture of risk understanding, risk reduction and resilience
  • develop a co-designed tool that’s relevant to, and inclusive of, the Kangaroo Island business community
  • integrate a micro-learning platform for businesses – small steps can drive big change.

This is achieved in the development of a local capability building Roadmap tool with a ‘Kangaroo Island Business Climate’ theme.
